The Man With The
Stony Heart
by Stephen Philip Druce
The man with
the stony heart drove along the darkened lane and
spotted road kill in the headlights - but he
drove on.
A voice from
the animal's spirit leapt into his conscience -
"how could you leave me here?, why didn't
you stop and place me under hedgerow with the
dignity I deserve?".
The man
ignored the voice, but the further he drove away
the louder it became.
Instinctively
he covered his ears with his hands and crashed.
The next
morning a bus passed by the wreckage. The bus
driver saw the dead man lying inside it but he
drove on.
A voice from
the dead man's spirit leapt into the bus driver's
conscience - "how could you leave me here?,
why didn't you stop?".
The bus driver
replied - "there isn't a bus stop there".
