Sex Education

He remembered the advice
his friend gave him during his teenage:
Never make love to
your spouse on the wedding night. You need to
first get acquainted with each other. Know each
other; love each other. Then only you can enjoy
sex.
His friend had also added
that these were not his ideas, but lessons
borrowed from an ancient text on sex.
Hailing from an orthodox
Hindu family, his upbringing was strict and he
seldom had any other buddies. So, he earnestly
believed in his only friend's counsel.

She listened to her friend's
voice ringing with excitement.
As soon as I closed
the door he pulled me towards him, crushing me
onto his chest. Then, he slid his hand beneath my

She waits.
He continues talking.
Anticipation tantalizes her,
agonizing.
He continues speaking.
She keeps waiting
For him to pull away her
sari
remove the hooks of her blouse; for
his hand to slide beneath the band of her skirt.
All that follows is boring
drone of his words that makes no sense to her.

She abandons him the next
day, leaving a note behind: We had a
lifetime to tell stories. But there's only one
first night, which you deprived us of.
