A Special Friend
by Ian Curtress
An idyllic
childhood destroyed by war.
The Young not spared of what we saw
Overnight I remember when
Innocent boys transformed to men
The thought of self did not exist
A common cause, the aim, resist
I saw a Nation at its best
The Will to survive, no time for rest
No such words as cant be done
A single aim, everyone
Hidden strengths amazed us all
No hurdles accepted at which to fall
Sense of achievements everyday
Somehow always found a way
Survive we did and left with thoughts
Mine still true today when overwrought
The lifetime value of a Special Friend
A unique relationship without end
A Special Friend brings sweet relief
Doubles my joy and Halves my grief. |
