Another Town
by Ian Curtress
They say the town,
now in ruins is strategically important.
So are lives.
First push impossible. Fodder
Regroup.Town strategically important. So
are lives
Second push. Enemy taking heavy
casualties.
So are we. Unsuccessful.
Regroup. Town strategically important. So
are lives.
Very heavy losses, but town strategically
important. So are lives
Town taken. Heavy losses. Another town
ahead.
Advance. Bodies everywhere. Not
strategically important
Part of a battle scene, overall picture.
Not important
Pause for rest and regroup. Cannot ignore
the dead all around you
Suddenly you look at just one.
A Son, a brother, a boyfriend, a husband,
a father. Not important?
So many changed lives, so much mourning
So much that is important. So much to
learn
But we never do!
Theres always another town |
